the journey
brief: create a film that visually illustrates the path to excellence a student at the royal ballet school of antwerp walks throughout their years at the prestigious institute.
the film was created as part of the new visual marketing directive from artistic director curtis foley.
for the royal ballet school of antwerp, he envisioned an online visual presence that communicated the school’s artistic sensibilities, its ambitions, as well as its striving toward artistic excellence for its students.
the film was made along side a series of photographs, which included documentation of all mayor dance classes as well as new portrait photographs of all faculty members.
in terms of visual storytelling, the film had to convey the continuous evolution of its students. the narrative chosen as best depicting the essence of the school, was that of a continuous camera movement following the continued upward trajectory of the students themselves – from their first ballet class, all through the curriculum, up onto the stage.
the visual style of the film was designed to evoke the soft quality of old classic films. the visual design of the film in it self tells a story of dreams, of class, and of endurance.
