supernils
brief: create a film that visually communicates the mission of supernils vzw – a support organization for haemato-oncology patients – to both patient and sponsor.
the film was commissioned by supernils, a non-profit organization that supports hematology-oncology patients and their loved ones.
the problem they wished this film would solve was having to repeatedly verbally explain the meaning of the organization to both patients, as well as potential benefactors.
telling the story of the organization’s mission as well as its means – providing care packages that enable patients to play, learn, exercise, as well as experience life outside a hospital through the use of vr – became mostly a visual challenge.
show, don’t tell, was the immediate artistic impulse.
we honed in on the emotional essence of supernils; which is the joyful reprieve from life in treatment. we made that the central theme and designed a visual story around this, in magical realist fashion – highlighting joy and lightness.
A young patient sitting on his hospital bed, floats back out into a world of nature, culture, and above all carefree enjoyment, as he puts on the supernils vr goggles.
fixed camera without any compound movement the world of the hospital. slow shutter amplifies the passage of time. Once the influence of supernils enters, the camera becomes freer and fluid. wide angles emphasize a sense of carefree liberation and joyful lightness.
