warrior
brief: create a series of short films showcasing the strength and resilience of the children participating in the Warrior project.
a series of short films highlighting three varied groups of children – with disabilities, with migration background, and with dance ambition.
these children join forces to show that diversity is not a threat; but an opportunity. and that each of us can overcome difficulties, like a true warrior.
initially conceptualized as a performance program in which different antwerp -based schools could create synergy between their diverse range of students, it evolved to include a series of films.
the main film provides an overall look into the choreographic collaboration between the three groups of children. the shorter additional films form intimate portraits of several of the children participating in the warrior project.
hand held camera with a variety of wide and portrait lenses create a visual language reminiscent of parent-made school video’s. the addition of grainy and bright highlighted image quality, with slight faded – though still vibrant – colours delivers a melancholic atmosphere, enhancing the strong message of positivity and inclusion.
the camera moves through the dancing children, focusing on faces and nature, as well as presenting blurred imagery – taking the viewer into the project in an intimate and tactile manner; while the children speak, dance, and rejoice on the lyrical music by oscar and the wolf.
