time to dance 2023
brief: create the opening film for the first edition of the “time to dance” international ballet gala and charity event, organized by star dancer Wim Vanlessen.
the film was created as the opener of the “time to dance” international ballet gala and charity event, which was held on March 6, 2023 at the koningin elisabethzaal in antwerp, belgium.
the charity gala consisted of an evening filling program with international ballet of the highest caliber; attended by the upper echelons of cultural, business, and political life in belgium – including her majesty the queen of belgium.
proceeds of the evening went to a charity benefiting young ballet dancers; dansersfonds foundation.
the film had to convey several important messages at once;
it had to bring across the story of its organizer, wim vanlessen.
it had to establish the right level or artistic excellence.
it had to instill within the spectators a feeling of exciting anticipation.
the narrative of the organizer was conveyed through a warm voice over. the narrative of artistic excellence and anticipation was crafted visually; a high dynamic black and white image, with a mysterious shallow depth of field, in which two figures are visible only as dancers, but not as individuals.
the use of close ups, as well as a subtle blending of various frame rates, provided an alluring visual story that proved successful in cinematically establishing the event as a must on the cultural calendar.
