brief: create the opening film for the second edition of the “time to dance” international ballet gala and charity event, organized by star dancer wim vanlessen.
the film was created as the opener of the 2nd edition of the “time to dance” international ballet gala and charity event, which was held on february 5, 2024 at the koningin elisabethzaal in antwerp, belgium.
the charity gala consisted of an evening filling program with international ballet of the highest caliber.
proceeds of the evening went to a charity benefiting young ballet dancers; dansersfonds foundation.
in keeping with the previous edition, this year’s film again served as the start, and the atmosphere setter, of the event; establishing the right level or artistic excellence and anticipation.
with a voice over by organizer wim vanlessen, the film welcomes its audience as well as highlights the mission of the event: bringing top of the bill dance.
told through wide angle lenses and stylish black and white cinematography, the visual narrative propels the audience through a classicist architectural environment; riding wim’s coattails as he goes from walking to dancing – old hollywood style.
the use of variable frame rates allows the film to accentuate wim’s movement and creates an edit in line with the tempo of the voice over – joining the audio and visual narratives together seamlessly.
the use of light streaks and the halo of sunlight on marble, elevates the visual language to that of silent era class.
